According to Visit North Carolina, the state’s tourism authority, travel spending statewide hit a record $35.6 billion in 2023, a 6.9% increase from the previous year. North Carolina welcomed approximately 43 million visitors in 2023.
Every dollar tourists spend enhances the quality of life in Guilford County. Tourism creates jobs, supports local businesses, and generates tax revenue.
In 2023, the number of direct tourism employees in Guilford County grew by 5.5% to 11,580 jobs. This growth rate is higher than the state average of 4.8%, making Guilford one of only five counties in North Carolina with more than 10,000 tourism-related employees.
